Nestled in "Maine's Most Beautiful Mountain Village," the Bethel Library has been the hub of the community with programs, events, and services for all ages since 1879. The Bethel Library serves the towns of Bethel, Gilead, Newry, and Greenwood, as well as Albany and Mason Townships.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Bethel Library cards are free to residents of Bethel, Gilead, Greenwood, and Newry, as well as Albany and Mason townships. Property owners and workers in these towns and townships also qualify for a free Bethel Library card.

    The Bethel Library offers children who attend school in the SAD #44 school district free library cards.

    To get a library card present a photo ID and proof of residency/employment to the circulation desk.

    Acceptable documents include: driver's license, utility bill, rental documents, a paystub, or employee identification.
