Library Cards


  • Bethel Library cards are free to residents of Bethel, Gilead, Greenwood, and Newry, as well as Albany and Mason townships. Property owners and workers in these towns and townships also qualify for a free Bethel Library card.

    The Bethel Library offers children who attend school in the SAD #44 school district free library cards.

    To get a library card present a photo ID and proof of residency/employment to the circulation desk.

    Acceptable documents include: driver's license, utility bill, rental documents, a paystub, or employee identification.

  • Non-residents can get a Bethel Library card for an annual fee of $15.

  • Bethel Library cardholder information needs to be verified annually.

    Contact Bethel Library staff to update cardholder information.

Borrowing


  • Materials circulate for 3 weeks. Materials may normally be renewed once, unless there is a waiting list.

  • Materials may be renewed online through the MILS system. Access MILS by clicking the My Account button.

    Alternatively, materials may be renewed by contacting Bethel Library staff.

  • The Bethel Library does not charge fines for overdue items from its collection.

    Items borrowed from other libraries through MILS or the Maine Reciprocal Borrowing Program may still incur fines.

  • Materials may be reserved online through the Minerva system. To learn more check out the helpful video on the Borrowing page.

    Alternatively, contact Bethel Library staff for assistance with placing holds.

  • A patron may have 10 items checked out at one time on their Bethel Library card.

  • Patrons can receive the Bethel Library newsletter by subscribing at the bottom of this page.

    Or follow the Bethel Library on Facebook and Instagram.

  • The Bethel Library has a regular story time every Wednesday at 10AM. All are welcome!

  • The Bethel Library welcomes new programs and events. Please reach out to the Bethel Library staff with your suggestions.

  • The Bethel Library has several areas where patrons can read or study.

    These areas are public community spaces and cannot be reserved.

  • Please contact Bethel Library staff to find out when the Library is able to accept book donations.

  • The Bethel Library is continually accepting volunteers for different projects. Please contact Bethel Library staff if you are interested in volunteering at the library.
